ALTV: Free Movies, TV
Shows and Much More!
THE GOOD: Wonderfully-attractive black people who are clearly educated, speak articulately and dress very fashionably. Great location shots and cinematography. A range of interesting and often scandalous plots. Nollywood films run the gamut: From adultery to black market organ trafficking, battle over royal thrones, prostitution, ancient/modern mysticism, light romance and murder. Many of your favorite actors will appear in different roles and combinations. The older films seem to be more child-friendly; newer films are becoming more racy and controversial.

THE BAD: Low budget productions resulting in some technical issues and many of the films are unnecessarily long (average 4 hrs running time including all segments). But, what Nollywood lacks in production money, it makes up for with superb acting. A negative for us: many of the scandalous movies involve promiscuity, yet no one ever pulls out a condom. Nollywood also has very confusing movie titles. The movies are usually in several parts, each an hour or so in length. For reasons unknown, the title of each segment is different and unless you already know the order, you're likely to watch the episodes of a movie out of sequence. In the spirit of clarity, we list segments in the order we've found them on YouTube and other sites.

THE CHALLENGING: Figuring out which movie segment to watch first. The dialogue can at times be difficult for a Westerner to understand, especially when the actors speak rapidly, or in native Hausa or Yoruba. At times the actors switch between native dialect and English, but there will often be subtitles to help you along. There are some recurring sexist themes, including the scheming female/wicked temptress/evil woman. Also, wealthy characters generally have timid black servants that they treat with troubling disdain.
If you're looking for a refreshing change from the Eurocentricity and pop culture of American cinema, Nollywood is a great choice. Touted as the third-largest movie industry after Hollywood and Bollywood, Nollywood is gaining in popularity and becoming more accessible to audiences worldwide.
The Nollywood Reviewer, Volume 4 presents an interesting variety of films. Clicking a movie's poster or "Watch Now" button will take you to a third-party site/the first movie in its series.

Harvest of Love 1 & 2: A trusting woman is murdered by a stepsister scheming to steal her husband. With the help of juju the stepsister succeeds, only to be haunted by the ghost of the woman she has deceived. A more fitting title for this movie would’ve been “Harvest of Fear”. Effects are low budget, yet effective. The movie leaves some questions unanswered, but it’s still a worthwhile venture. Most memorable: the dark witches who provide the evil means to an end. They’re not on screen for long, but these chicks are definitely creepy. Starring Van Vicker, Nollywood beauty Chika Ike and the attractive, but ultimately scary Chichi Kings.
Careless Soul: A man loses his devout father due to his faith in Christ. In turn, he finds himself at odds with the oracle who now wants his wife and unborn child for sacrifice. This movie has potential, but is difficult to get through due to poor picture quality and sound. The dialogue is choppy as well, tempting you to skip through scenes. A lot of juju in this movie; to a westerner, the costumes might seem humorous. Still, the ending is both unpredictable and satisfying. Starring Emeka Ike and talented Omatola Jalade as the doomed, yet dutiful wife.
Blackberry Babes 1 & 2/Return of Blackberry Babes 1 & 2: The women are hot and sexy; the fashions are fierce. There's also a catchy theme song that'll stick in your head. But, that’s not enough to carry a movie totalling close to four hours. The premise: a popular clique of college girls will do virtually anything to own the latest Blackberry phone(s). Some cute moments, but an hour to tell the story would’ve sufficed. What's more, there’s so much sleeping around, it’s scary–especially since condoms appear to be non-existent. Starring Oge Okoye, Tonto Dike, Mary Remmy and Muna Obikwe.
Love My Way: A man dissatisfied with his wife’s flagrant lifestyle finds her a changed woman after she’s in a car accident and loses her memory. But, she is not really the wife he thinks she is. Starring beautiful actress Genevieve Minaj and sexy Jim Iyke. Hottie Tonto Dike and Kalu Ikeagwu also star. A light, easy to watch drama with an unexpected twist. Jim Iyke is comical as the confused husband who only wants the best for and from his lovely wife.
The Comforter/Comforter 2: A woman preparing to marry the man of her dreams is suddenly confronted by the dark past she’s been trying to escape. Starring the beautiful and talented Mercy Johnson, who does the best and most crying you'll probably ever see in a movie. Also starring handsome Ghanaian actor Van Vicker. With Olu Jacobs and Clarion Chukwurah. A very well-acted and somber drama, with a completely unexpected ending.
